Performance Literacy
For The Purpose of Civic Discourse

At the heart of our work is the idea of restoring a fuller sense of humanity to ourselves and our communities. We seek to create a relevant context that promotes empathy, and mindful, civil dialogue. Our performances relay stories of the human heart and touch upon the larger questions of life regarding themes of justice, resistance and liberty.
Our goal is to create an environment of empathy and community building. We all bring our own biography to the table and honor everyone’s individual right to express their perspective. It is our hope that by recreating events and people we ultimately gain a more expansive, deeper, and nuanced understanding of what has shaped us as Americans.
By using the power of performance and creative workshops, we create a shared experience with the intention of shedding light upon untold pieces of our shared history and dispelling the dehumanizing myths that have given voice to racial differences that endure today. Through the vehicles of Chautauqua, Story Plotting, and Workshops we seek to facilitate a conversation about the divisions that continue to separate us from one another.
“If the structure does not permit dialogue the structure must be changed”
